Over the course of three days in November, the CPCC President Wojciech Sniegowski had the privilege to host the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Piotr Zgorzelski. The Deputy Speaker was the highest-level politician from Poland to visit Canada upon the Chamber’s special invitation.
During his visit, our President ensured that he had every opportunity to familiarize himself with activities of the Canadian local government officials as well as the activities of Polish entrepreneurs. The Deputy Speaker met with the Mayor of Mississauga, Bonnie Crombie, addressed the Polish community through Radio 7 Toronto, and paid tribute to Canada’s Remembrance Day and Poland’s Independence Day.
On November 11, President Sniegowski and Deputy Speaker Zgorzelski participated in a Celebration of Remembrance Day in Mississauga Celebration Square accompanied by Przemysław Wątroba from LOT Polish Airlines. The Deputy Speaker also had the opportunity to visit the cemetery at Niagara-on –the-lake, in order to lay a wreath in honour of the recruits of the Blue Army.
The official visit concluded at our 2021 Excellence Awards Gala. Even though our Gala was significantly smaller in scale due to COVID, we had the honour to award three extraordinary individuals.
Piotr Zgorzelski – Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Poland. Awarded Political Leadership of the year 2021 for demonstrating leadership by visiting Canada and Canadian Polonia in effort to find avenues for closer cooperation between Canadian Polonia and Poland.
Andrzej Malinowski – President of the Employers of the Republic of Poland, Pracodawcy RP, one of the biggest business organizations in Poland. Awarded Champion of the year 2021 for Poland-Canada Business Development. This award is in recognition of efforts to develop business relationships between both countries.
Rafał Milczarski – CEO and President of the Management Board at LOT Polish Airlines. Awarded Industry Star of the year 2021 in recognition of his role of guiding Polish Airlines through COVID crisis. Thus, providing Canadian Polonia uninterrupted service between Canada and our homeland.
In addition to our Excellence Awards, Corporate Member Andrzej Sochaj of Cyclone Manufacturing, presented medals from the Association of Polish Engineers Mississauga Chapter to outstanding members of the Polish-Canadian community. It was an evening that truly recognized the vibrant Polish-Canadian community of which most of our members belong.
